Based in Brixham, a fishing port on the South coast of Devon, Spex Opticians was established in 1978.

From the very beginning we have been innovative, always encouraging the latest technology in optometry. We are an independent Opticians, and we specialise in catering for individual needs of our patients. We strive to offer a top class service as economically as possible. We offer a wide selection of frames, including designer frames, and we update our stock regularly.

We have two different premises, our original shop is in Middle Street, Brixham, close to the centre of town, and the bus station. Our second shop is on condor Drive, in Torquay, near The Willows shopping centre. Both premises offer eye tests, spectacles, contact lenses and sunglasses.

As a Kodak Lens Vision Centre, we provide all the benefits of Kodak Lens technology, delivering the expert knowledge, care and attention you need and deserve. We also use Zeiss and Hoya lenses in our glasses.

As Opticians we think lenses are the most important part of your spectacles. While many patients feel they want to spend as much as they can afford on really nice frames, we encourage you to consider investing in better quality lenses. We can also supply prescription sunglasses - increasingly we are all becoming aware of the need for good protection from Ultraviolet radiation when the sun is shining, and if you are on the water frequently, we can eliminate glare with polarised lenses.

You don’t need to surf the net too long, to find what appears to be some very cheap deals on disposable soft contact lenses. We specialise in fitting ALL kinds of contact lenses, but will not be selling them online. A contact lens is a foreign body that we choose to put in our eyes – the fitting, and supervising wear of your contact lenses is a skilled procedure. We also stock solutions for your lenses.

Laser Refractive Surgery is becoming a popular means correcting vision. It is now a well established procedure, and while the very long term effects are obviously unknown, several years experience has shown more successful cases than otherwise. At SPEX we can advise patients on their suitability for treatment, if you are considering refractive surgery, we will be pleased to examine your eyes, give you more information, and put you in touch with a suitable clinic.
